Jason Vains

Associate

Jason has over 20 years’ experience as an environmental manager and is a former Commonwealth officer for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (Reef Authority). Jason worked with Australian and Queensland governments to develop and implement the Great Barrier Reef Strategic Assessment under the EPBC Act and was part of the team responsible for developing and implementing the Reef 2050 Long-term Sustainability Plan. As part of this, he led the development of the Cumulative Impact Assessment and Net Benefit policies. Jason has also led the co-design and implementation of the Reef Authority’s Reef Guardian Council program with local government and has contributed extensively to the development of the Reef Authority’s Coastal Ecosystems Assessment Framework.

With experience in strategic assessments, developing outcome-based frameworks and implementation programs, Jason provides effective advice on strategic environmental policy development, design and implementation of environmental programs, and strategic impact assessment across land and marine systems.
