South Australian Translocation Policy

South Australia

Aestra was engaged by the South Australian Government Department for Environment and Water (DEW) to provide policy advice on the regulation of wildlife translocation under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972 (National Parks Act). Aestra delivered this project on a pro bono basis.

Wildlife translocation is one of the strategies used to mitigate the impacts of development actions on individuals and populations of flora and fauna species. The translocation of wildlife needs to be carefully handled to ensure that there are no adverse impacts to either the translocated individuals or the receiving populations.

Our policy input supported DEW to provide further guidance and clarity to proponents on the expectations associated with an application to translocate wildlife under the National Parks Act.
